State Sen. Ernie Chambers sued God last week. Angered by another lawsuit he considers frivolous, Chambers says he’s trying to make the point that anybody can file a lawsuit against anybody.

Chambers says in his lawsuit that God has made terroristic threats against the senator and his constituents, inspired fear and caused “widespread death, destruction and terrorization of millions upon millions of the Earth’s inhabitants.”

The Omaha senator, who skips morning prayers during the legislative session and often criticizes Christians, also says God has caused “fearsome floods … horrendous hurricanes, terrifying tornadoes.”

He’s seeking a permanent injunction against the Almighty.

Prescription:  Doesn’t the fan in the in the background look like a halo? Now if he could get the Father, Son and Holy Spirit to testify this might be the most highly covered case the media has seen yet.

Newark Mayor Wears a Cape Under His Suit Thursday, August 9, 2007

Two people, including 15-year-old boy, are in custody in connection with the execution-style slayings of three college students in a Newark, New Jersey, schoolyard, authorities said.

Jose Carranza, 31, of Newark, New Jersey, surrendered in the slayings of three college students.   Jose Carranza, 31, of Newark, surrendered with his lawyer at midday Thursday, Mayor Cory A. Booker said.

The suspect insisted on surrendering to the mayor after learning he was wanted for murder.

“He simply came forward. He said nothing,” recalled Booker, who rushed from a news conference to the police station for the surrender.

“We put him in handcuffs and we walked the individual into the office. I personally helped the detective to sit him down and I left,” the mayor added.

 Prescription:

Every so often in a publicists’ life you get that one rare amazing opportunity or circumstance that changes the direction of your strategy or story or position for you and your client or in this case, your boss ( Mayor Booker).  Add to that flawless execution of getting the facts and news to the media and you might get a moment that goes down in history that people remember forever. Such is the case perhaps for Lupe Todd, the mayor’s press secretary in which today the mayor gave a a rather detailed blow by blow account of how one of the demon suspects in this case  and his lawyer contacted the authorities as well as the mayor to turn himself in.

This was no regular story. In the PR ( public relations) business this is called a Crisis ( cue scary music). Cleary, the mayor’s election campaign built him up as a son of Newark and with this horrific crime– in a matter of seconds, the community began to turn on him even picketing in the streets to have him removed.  But then, out of nowhere, except in the movies do criminals turn themselves into the mayor.  Im sure Ms. Todd breathed a sigh of relief because in a matter of seconds it seemed the mayor everyone loves, even if you don’t live in NJ was a savior again, a man of the people.  (Insert apology from ”the people” here).

And, then it doesnt get any better than when at the press conference about this, the Mayor answered questions from the latino media in Spanish and English!

This was a case of spin  the story or act with lighting speed to avoid irrelevant, assuming and insulting spin. Speed won and when it comes off this smoothly it can only mean the mayor’s team or publicist  is  execptional  because the mayor clearly shines here despite the circumstances.

Don’t tell Daddy I’m in Love with Barack Tuesday, August 7, 2007

Caroline Giuliani, 17, who is said to be estranged from her dad(Rudy), registered on the Facebook Web site for an Obama network called “Barack Obama (One Million Strong for Barack).” Caroline - who created her page on the social-networking site without using her last name - lists her political views as “liberal.  “It was unclear when the Harvard-bound Trinity HS grad linked up with Obama’s Facebook network, but she dropped out of it at about 6 a.m. yesterday after Slate, an online magazine, asked her about her membership.  It’s the latest family drama to hit Giuliani as he campaigns nationwide, closely watched by the conservative voters who dominate GOP primaries.

Joannie Danielides, a spokeswoman for Caroline’s mother, Donna Hanover, downplayed the apparent support of Obama.

Prescription: It could be a real problem if you are running for president and it seems your own family wouldn’t vote for you. Ouch!

Kudos to Danielides for her swift kill of this news item that could have really spun out of control. Apparently, she gave a statement to the media that was chopped up and used for quotes. She rightfully acknowledges that Rudy’s daughter did have a facebook account but immediately paints the picture that this is really not a big deal and that in fact, there may not even be a story here because she had this facebook account BEFORE the presidential campaign got under way. What is brilliant here is that Danielides doesn’t leave it at that, because then we all could say, ” If that is the case then why didn’t she change or update her page once she knew her dad was running for president?” hmmmmmm. This would make Caroline Giuliani open to further scrutiny on her views and spark a real comparison between Barack  and Giuliani. The odds are it would probably look like Caroline was leaning more toward Barack. So, Danielides sums up what we are all thinking before we can even say it. “Caroline added herself to a list on Facebook as an expression of interest in certain principles,” Danielides said.

Doesn’t that make you feel warm and fuzzy? Sounds to me like this young Caroline is a smart little cookie. Because, shouldn’t we all vote on the right candidate based on principles and not popularity or because we are related to them?

And for the final little spank on Caroline Giuliani’s bottom, Danielides adds, “It was not intended as an indication of support in a presidential campaign, and she has removed it.” Which really means, this story is over and Caroline, folks are trying to get a guy elected, don’t make me have to clean up after you again.

A Mayor on his knees and under her skirt… Monday, August 6, 2007

Filed under: Politics — ilovemypublicist @

Mirthala Salinas, a Los Angeles television anchor who reported on the mayor’s marital problems without telling viewers she was “the other woman” has been suspended by her Spanish-language network. Salinas, 35, was having the relationship with Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa when SHE (Salinas) announced the news of his separation from his wife of 20 years on the local Telemundo station.

and then…

For the first time since admitting the affair that broke up his 20-year marriage, Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa on Saturday publicly talked about asking for forgiveness, using a religious rally attended by 7,500 former gang members and ex-drug users on the south lawn of City Hall to express faith in a “loving, forgiving God.”

We have to acknowledge that this is part funny in that, no red flags went up for Ms. Salinas or the producers of the newcast that this might not have been a good idea, even if she was just reading the “lead-in” ( the introduction to the next story segment).

Either, someone is out to ruin this young lady for good by not making her aware that this “lead-in” was coming up thus orchestrating her ultimate downfall( insert evil laugh here) or these folks are just not smart. This blog wont address whether or not the Mayor should have had an affair with this woman and she, keep her job due the nature of her position and their relationship but rather address the the spin as a result.

No one ever asks the publicist until it’s too late and they must fix the mess so, here goes.

Pretty much no good can be spun from this story. How does a mayor justify an affair? Especially, one so messy and executed so stupidly? yuck! He doesn’t. The best thing to do is distract. It seems the press secretary for the Mayor found a way to divert this story somewhere else that may not have gotten any or as much attention. If a photo opp with 7,500 former gang members all asking for forgiveness and change is not brilliant, it certainly doesnt get any better.

Prescription: When all else fails, say your are Sorry so loud it’s too much to miss and maybe, just maybe people will forget what you did.
